1) In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

When we decided to have our film tell the story, we decided on a non-linear structure since it doesn't stay in the present day, but is explained with flash backs of the protagonist and slowly unravels throughout. It uses the conventions of a psychological thriller in that it follows the same narrative. In the beginning of the film the first thing that is seen by the audience is a low angle which only shows two people legs, this shot was used as it keeps the audience guessing for a few seconds and it doesn’t establish characters immediately unlike most conventional films. Most films establish the character with their faces straight away but we wanted to make sure that the voice over was heard first so that the audience would want to put a face to the voice, making it much more mysterious and make the audience connect to the protagonist

This is a similar shot to our film again it makes the audience very curious as you can't see the characters face, but only there legs. So the only thing the audience have to judge the character are his/her shoes.

We really wanted the audience to feel as though the protagonist had a long journey, which they were on with him so we thought that the corridor could represent Darren Walker long untold ordeal. Also to make it feel as though it was Darren Walkers judgement day. The shot shows that Darren Walker is a prisoner and that he’s been escorted down a long plain corridor

We really wanted the audience to relate to Darren Walkers story so we decided an establishing shot of him driving in to his drive way as if it was just a ‘typical day’ and try make it as normal as possible. We used a pan to establish the street and his house and to show Darren Walkers home and to make it look very homely. We really liked the idea of representing as middle class man who people could relate to him. We also used a blur around the frame this was to show that it wasn’t happening now, but to show the audience that it was a memory. We especially wanted to make the blur noticeable as it really made the audience focus on the centre of the whole screen.

I really liked how Tim Burton represented a suburban neighbourhood and how it looked friendly and boring so we tried incorporated this into our film. No one expects a murder to happen in a quiet neighbourhood, murders usually occur in ‘rough’ estates. Also, Tim Burton really represents the community and it really draws the audience in and makes the movie more relatable.

We thought that it would look good if the title looked like a ripple in the water which could represent drips of blood from Lucy, it also connotes Darren Walkers like how one bad thing can effect everything like a ripple effect. It also represents the water running when Lucy dies in the shower.

We also made the writing long as it makes it very noticeable and the font really works as it looks as though it has been written by a type writer which associates with late 1900’s doctor notes or suicide   notes.

The title sequence music is very different to the usual conventions it was a piano being played but in reverse this symbolised that the story was going to be told backwards also it really worked well to set a mysterious vibe, which would make the audience even more intrigued and make them carry on watching.

Britney spears Everytime video
Even though this is a music video this scene inspired us to put it in our film. As in our film the character is murdered in the bath and when her husband finds her dead his first reaction is to lift her out.

CERTIFICATE FOR OUR FILM

After looking at the ages needed I have come to a conclusion that our film would be a 15 due to;

  • strong violence
  • frequent strong language (eg 'f***').
  • portrayals of sexual activity
  • strong verbal references to sex
  • brief scenes of sexual violence or verbal references to sexual violence
  • discriminatory language or behaviour

  • There will be potentially a lot of strong language throughout the film to convey how aggressive or mad a character is at  that time in the film. At 15 violence may be strong, but just not gory.

    Similar films to ours

The first one is The Fugitive; This film as a really similar story line to our film. Also, this film is a 12 which again helps me understand which age certificate ours could be and the rating are good which means people really take an interest into films like these.

The next one is not as similar to our film, however it is similar in that the protagonist seeks vengeance towards the people who the family he protect same as our character must find and punish his wife's murderer and clear his own name in the process.

The film which I am analysing and why

    WHY I CHOSE THIS?

The film is about Dr. Richard Kimble, unjustly accused of murdering his wife and he must find the real killer while being the target of a nationwide manhunt. This really work for my film as the genres are the same, also the story line are really similar. This really gives me an understanding of how to represent my protagonist and his trajectory throughout the film.
I THINK IT CAN BE INTERPRETED INTO OUR FILM

I think the cinematography used in this film would be key in our film as its all about representing Dr. Richard Kimble as an innocent man. Also, the fast pace in the film keep the audience intrigued and alert which makes the film even more believable.
THE ONLY NEGATIVE ABOUT THE FILM
Has to be the chosen font used, I personally think it is very 90's and with todays audience they would be very bored and may misinterpret the rest of the film as a very dated and old fashioned.
As you can see it is very bulky and a very dull colour, which isn't really used anymore.

    THE UNTOLD (OVERALL STORY)

The story is about a man, Darren Walker, who is sentenced to life for killing his wife. However, Darren Walker didn't kill his wife, but as all the evidence points towards him he has no choice but to flee the scene.

Darren Walker is a very normal man who lives with his wife, kids and a very decent job as a Bank Manger. After finishing work early he goes home as he enters his warm, beautiful home as a loving father and a brilliant husband. He finds his dead wife brutally murdered in the upstairs bathroom laid in a puddle of blood, he grabs the knife and stands there in disbelief.

As he gathers his baring, he suspects the murderer has returned, with this in his mind and clearly not thinking straight. Darren Walker strikes a Police Officer with a marble object. Unfortunately, Darren Walker puts himself unwillingly in the frame with a bloody wife and a knife with his finger prints and a Police Officer badly smashed up he must flee to find the real murderer and put his wife at rest and clear his name. Darren Walker entered his warm, beautiful home as a loving father and a brilliant husband, but left as a cold bitter widow with only one thing on his mind to find out ‘The Untold’.

However, after unravelling the truth Darren Walker plans and plots the perfect revenge on the bastard that did this to his wife. Unknown to him the murderer is a little closer to home; one of his jealous work colleague. Once he discovers the truth he pushes on finding a way in which he can prove his innocents and revenge his sweet wife, even if this means having to torture one of his work colleagues.

All this is shown through flash backs, while Darren Walker is in jail for murdering the police officer he has time to think and re tell the story.

OUR MOVIE - THE UNTOLD (THE FIRST TWO MINUTE)

Darren Walker is a family man, living in Bromley. Serving a life sentence the audience follow Darren Walkers trajectory for 'killing' his wife, even though he didn't kill her, the judge found him guilty. The story is told through Darren Walkers encounters and how this mysterious tale unravels to the true intentions and murderer of his dearly beloved wife.

Darren Waker is being escorted by two Police Guards, in an orange jumpsuit, as he walks towards his new destiny he reflect and pieces the plot together.

He is stood in the bathroom with a knife in his hands with drips of blood dropping on the floor. Darren Walker is stood over his wife the room seems as though time has frozen. The police sirens suddenly unfreeze the moment, causing Darren Walker to drop the knife. As he goes to turn he slips on the blood, as he forces himself up out of the blood which has now smeared all over his clothes, he hears the door charms jingle. Thinking it was the murderer returning to finish his handy work, he grabs the marble ball in the window and waits for the murderer.

As steps get closer and louder, Darren Walkers heart beats like a base drum, as he raises his hand to make sure the marble ball makes a lasting impression on the murderer. He sees a black leather shoe appear. Suddenly, Darren Walkers arm drops down on the mans head the man stumbles. He carries on repeatedly hitting him then suddenly he hears ''Pc Lib what is the situation'' from a radio attached to the left of the mans chest. As he begins to panic, he drops the marble ball and begins to go down stairs with a dead body and a badly injured officer up stairs he begins to make his way down the stairs, he misses a step causing him to fall down stairs and hitting his face on the wooden floor his head bounces off the floor splitting his head open.
